About The Children’s Reading Foundation of the Mid-Columbia
Discover the heartwarming journey of the Children’s Reading Foundation of the Mid-Columbia, where community spirit meets a passion for literacy. Originating from a collaboration between five dedicated citizens and eight school districts in Washington state, CRFMC emerged with a mission: to ensure that 90% of students read proficiently by third grade within six years.
Starting locally in Benton and Franklin Counties, CRFMC soon expanded nationally, birthing the Mid-Columbia Chapter with its headquarters nestled in Kennewick, Washington. Today, CRFMC stands as a beacon of hope, advocating for early literacy to unlock every child’s full potential.
With initiatives like READY! for Kindergarten and Team Read, CRFMC brings literacy to life, distributing over 30,000 books annually through First Teacher Libraries, READ Up Summer Slide prevention programs, and Books for Babies initiatives.
