About Communities in Schools of Benton-Franklin:
Communities in Schools of Benton-Franklin is an organization that resonates deeply with us. With nearly one in four students in Washington failing to graduate on time, CIS offers a solution to the dropout problem by surrounding students with a community of support. By partnering with public schools facing the greatest challenges, CIS brings together resources and volunteers to help struggling students get back on track.
It is the comprehensive range of services provided by CIS that sets them apart. They understand that many of the young people they serve face challenges both inside and outside the classroom. That’s why CIS coordinates academic and non-academic services, ensuring that students come to school ready to learn. From academic help to basic needs like food and clothing, physical and mental health care, mentoring, and college and career preparation, CIS addresses the diverse needs of students, unlocking their potential and paving the way for a brighter future.

“In recognition of Stress Awareness Month AND with state testing coming up, Rowena Chess Student Support Coordinator, Maribel, has been helping students build important stress management and coping skills strategies. She created a positive affirmations board at the main entrance of the building and engaged students in making their own stress balls during lunch and recess groups. The hands-on activity provided the perfect opportunity for students to share and explore additional ways they can manage stress. We love to see our scholars embrace the tools that provide the confidence to persevere through challenges.
